IRISH TRADITIONAL MUSICIAN

Steeped in the musical tradition of East Clare and Galway, Una’s been playing Irish traditional music since she was three. Her Mommy’s a nurse and her Daddy’s a musician, so she thinks they might have pumped jigs and reels into her via intravenous drip.

She’s been asked to play a few tunes in Killimor, also in nearby villages Toronto and Chicago; her “fave gigs” list includes the Fonn Irish Traditional Music Awards, the Ninth World Harp Congress, and Milwaukee Irish Fest. She’s played alongside noted funksters Paddy Fahy, Connie O’Connell, Michelle Mulcahy, Holly Geraghty, and Eileen Gannon.

At the tender age of eleven, Una came absolutely, totally, unmitigatedly last in the Feile Pan-Cheilteach competition…but last year she watched “Rocky VI” and was inspired to make a comeback:

1st place: Senior Harp, Galway Fleadh 2005
1st place: Song With Harp Accompaniment, Keadue International Harp Festival 2005
2nd place: Senior Harp Open, Keadue International Harp Festival 2005
2nd place: Senior Harp Open, Granard Harp Festival 2005
Una was the 2004 Artist-in-Residence at Central Missouri Celtic Arts Association, and the 2006 Artist-in-Residence at Grand River Comhaltas, Ontario.

Una gives solo recitals but can also rustle up at least 17 musicians to play with at any given moment. She loves sessions, too…why don’t you ask her to yours?
